La Mesa is a city located about 5 miles east of San Diego, and is accessible from the I-8 and 94 freeways. Although this city continues to grow, the Village area retains a great deal of old world charm.
This part of town offers a slightly less expensive lifestyle while still being close to the center of town. With recreational opportunities at Lake Murray, the large shopping district at Grossmont Center, and the retreat spaces of Mount Helix, there is something for everyone.
La Mesa real estate includes a little bit of everything. Older single family homes near University Avenue start in the low to mid $300’s. Country living in Mount Helix offers homes starting in the $500’s. The newer sub divisions like ‘Serramar’ feature larger estate homes with prices in the $600’s.
Condos and townhomes are primarily located around Lake Murray Boulevard and Fletcher Hills parkway. Primarily older complexes, prices are in the $100’s – $300’s.
One of the key pluses of La Mesa is quite simply, it’s lower entry points into the housing market. In recent years, I’ve helped a number of young couples buy here because they could get more for their money without much sacrifice on quality. Homes here do tend to be older, but in the last year, this community has been a prime location for real estate investors who have updated a number of homes.
