UTC is also known as University Town Centre. This is a large, central community sandwiched between I-5 and I-805. UTC is home to the University of California San Diego, several prominent malls, and two large hospitals in the area.
UCSD students and faculty live in UTC so there is a great demand for housing. There are numerous condo complexes including The Venetian, La Paz, Charmant, Lucero, Villa Vicenza and numerous others.
South of the main streets of La Jolla Village Dr and Nobel Dr lies the residential section of UTC. Single family homes in UTC tend to be built in the 1960’s and are typically small. Many have been upgraded and expanded over the years, but these are typically older homes.
Two notable exceptions are is ‘La Jolla ‘Colony’ just south of Nobel Dr. and ‘Renaissance’ just north of Nobel Dr. La Jolla Colony is a low density, quiet section of UTC with lush landscaping and walking trails. It houses several home communities including single family homes, townhomes, and condos. Away from the crowds of the busy streets and malls, these often gated communities offer Spanish charm, peace, and quiet.
The other notable exception to the typical homes in UTC is the ‘Renaissance Complex.’ Built in the 1990’s, this European style development offers extravagant landscaping and dramatic architectures. It also features condos, townhomes, and detached homes.
When you live in UTC, you are close to everything, truly in central San Diego. Known for some of the best schools in the San Diego school district, UTC makes a fabulous place to call home.
